Show #62 - Somersaults and Absentee Tobes

You never said anything, but they knew it. Nothing was said outright, but it was there all the same. Between the lines in the Facebook comments, in the things that didn't get said, the feeling was clear: you were getting tired of their voices. Every week, just the two of them, slinging lazy thinking, negative opinions, and half-baked theories at each other for two, three hours at a time. Sure, it's scintillating and you wish there were even more hours every week, but the unrelenting sameness of their droning talk-sounds had become oppressive. Well, never say Monolith and Bear Trap aren't responsive to their listeners! That's right, you're in for another Featured Guest show! Two becomes three when Friend of the Show Craig joins the Little Snack dummies for a fun, digressive, and, it should be mentioned, often rather humorous blab-fest. (Because Craig deserves a LittleSnack nickname, we'll assign him one as soon as one is agreed upon. Ideas are welcome.) Discussed: the morality of printing impending death photos on the front of newspapers, whether the NY Post is in danger of becoming a "snuff mag", 'Man of Steel' trailer, the ordeal that is Kal-el keeping up with his personal hygiene, the best way for superheroes to launch into flight, the working relationship between Zach Snyder and Christopher Nolan on 'Man of Steel', the trailer for Guillermo Del Toro's upcoming 'Pacific Rim', 'Pacific Rim' co-star Idris Elba's funny character name, a tone shift in the new 'GI Joe 2' trailer that Bear Trap finds hilarious, the 'Oblivion' trailer, the truth about Shyamalan's 'After Earth' as explained by Monolith, a tangential rundown on the M. Night Shyamalan ouevre, and what may be the photo that cracks the case on who really directed 'Poltergiest' (actually the photo below). Thanks again to Craig for lending his time and voice to the dog and pony show that is the Snack. Hope everyone enjoys this one.

Show #61 - Into Cumberbatch

Before you get excited, let me share some facts about this episode: the first three things we talk about are 'Star Trek', Apple news, and Batman. That's correct. The Unholy Trinity of Little Snack Boredom. Now, before you unsubscribe from this podcast, be aware that, if you do, you would be missing a discussion on whether the USS Enterprise could withstand full immersion in the ocean, a brief, poorly done, and inappropriate Bane impression, as well as a description of 'Sherlock' actor Benedict Cumberbatch that stays just (and I stress 'just') this side of an admission of manly love. Yes, you have to wade through drifts of coal to find these diamonds, but they're there, friends and listeners. They're there. And even if they're not there (and they're not), doesn't the raw mindless power of pure habit compel you to listen? Enjoy! Discussed: iMac production moving to US, the degree to which public relations played a role in the announcement, what might happen if Apple didn't care about PR ever, 'Star Trek: Into Darkness' teaser, similarities between the first Star Trek and its first sequel (based on teaser footage alone), Cumberbatch's hair-style, who the villain of 'Into Darkness' might be, Blu-Ray versus streaming video, where Monolith left off on his first re-watching of 'Dark Knight Rising', a low-information discussion is had regarding the Disney-Netflix deal signed this week, the geek-off Stephen Colbert won in New Zealand, some information about who the likely 2016 Democratic nominee might be, and thoughts on politics moving into a more fact-based realm. Hope you like it.

Show #60 - 'Use Outrageous Humor to Settle a Score' and other peculiar rules to live by

Sixty episodes of this podcast. For the faithful-est listeners, the folks who've listened to every minute of the addlepated ramblings of Monolith and Bear Trap, it is worth noting you have spent a full work week and a half listening to uninformed goofiness. And since exactly none of these shows has been an hour long, you're probably looking at two to three full work weeks you can never ever get back. Ever. Though your two Purveyors of Snackery may have doubts about your taste in podcasts (granted, there's only one, but still), they're actually really grateful to be the beneficiary of your epic time-wasting. You guys are great. Discussed: Bear Trap's road-gawking difficulties, the last installment of Monolith's ongoing series "Monolith Listens to Arnold's Autobiography", Arnold's top ten rules for success, Monolith ponders 'Silver Linings Playbook', Hollywood's still-to-be-released Oscar bait movies for 2012 are handicapped, PETA and their claims against Peter Jackson and 'The Hobbit', cherished and unimplemented Thanksgiving traditions, Howard Shore's score for 'LOTR', film music queues that are in and of themselves excellent but hit the wrong note when placed in the film, AMC's deft handling of 'The Godfather' trilogy, Monolith ponders 'Silver Linings Playbook' a bit longer, Kathleen Turner and why Bear Trap's a heartless jerk, that moment when you click on a link expecting an article and instead you get an ad followed by a video, tail-gating (the following-too-close behind variety, not the pregame drinking kind) and the joys thereof, what other things people who talk and text might also do, Tom Brokaw is singled out for Little Snack scorn, as well as assorted odds and ends and the random tangent. Click 'Play' in the new iTunes 11 (if that button's still there) and enjoy.

Show #59 - Thanksgiving! The Episode

Show #59

Though it's likely you've been anxiously awaiting the appearance of this episode of Little Snack to appear in iTunes so you could be certain you'd have something you and your guests could listen to during Thanksgiving dinner, in this case it may not be such a great idea. Particularly if you're having either Kevin Smith or anyone associated with a Twilight movie over for turkey. Could get awkward. Discussed: Thanksgiving plans, an update on Monolith's close listening of Arnold's autobiography, what role cynicism may have played in Arnold's brief campaign to replace Gray Davis, the joys of the Lego video game franchise, how Bear Trap (reluctantly!) murdered an unconscious guard (while playing the latest entrant in the glorious Hitman video game series), the death of Twinkies?, a discussion on Kevin Smith and his filmography, the first time Monolith saw 'Clerks', Bear Trap's "favorite" Kevin Smith movie, similarities between Kevin Smith and Woody Allen, what it means to have a terrible "visual style", an extended 'Twilight Saga' hatefest guaranteed to annoy all women (Twihards and non-Twihards alike), a brief discussion on the media coverage of the current unpleasantness in the middle east, and finally a thorough going-over of a (very) late Top 6 movies of all time list in which at least one podcaster discovers a film that was obviously intended for a Worst 6 list of some kind. Listen and find out if that error gets straightened out. Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Show #58 - 'Thomas' Ford could have saved Planet Hollywood

Americans are a busy, go-getting people. In addition to commanding the nation's spies, our CIA directors still find the time to go 'all in' with their biographers. And even with so many hours of the day filled up with not being president, our losing presidential candidates still manage to find that spare minute or two to call the majority of American voters moochers. Similarly, your two workaholic podcasters carve out whole swaths of seconds (nearly a minute's worth!) from their busy schedules to disinterestedly prep and poorly research every episode of Little Snack. This show's no exception. Today, these two Broadwells have gifted you with another gem. You're welcome. Discussed: "The Amazing Spider Man", Andrew Garfield's cloying coyness, how Sam Raimi's Spider Man trilogy looks in comparison, what is the 'essential' Spider Man, which cars Jim Lee's plastered DC comics superhero icons onto, the case against "Argo"'s early coronation as the film to beat for Best Picture, why Arnold says buying a 747 for the purposes of leasing it is risky, oddities in Maria Shriver's parenting style, a discussion on steroids for no reason, an explication of the deleted "Prometheus" scenes, the thematic similarity between "Prometheus" and "Blade Runner", what the Petraeus scandal says about the military, male humans, and the media, who the reporters should be talking to about Mr. and Mrs. 'All In', and finally, a second look at last week's post-election victory dance/discussion. Too soon? Too optimistic? Too exactly correct? Take a listen to find out. Enjoy!

Show #57 - Election 2012! (Repost!)

Two years of interminable campaigning is over. For 24 months America was force-fed an unhealthy buffet of book-hawking charlatans posing as presidential candidates, creepy sprint-to-the-right primary debates, sad primaries, Romney inevitability, VP speculation, hidden video gaffes, and exhaustive presidential debate postmortems.

It was all over in a blink, wasn't it?

Last night, Barack Obama's election to a second term showed definitively a) which candidate had the broadest appeal, and b) which pollsters know what they're doing. (Spoiler: Gallup's not one of them.) The 'Lith and the Trap watched it all go down last night and discuss what happened and what it means in this episode of A Little Snack. Discussed: Gay marriage and marijuana legalization, Karl Rove's "meltdown", who really calls the shots at Fox News, Republican infighting post-election, 2016 predictions (sorta), the main emotion brought on by the final result, which direction the country's moving politically, why the Republicans can't win in the Senate, Sherlock, BBC excellence compared with HBO's, Benedict Cumberbatch, Disney's purchase of LucasFilm, first experiences with Star Wars, who should direct Episode VII, how much the theme parks will increase in awesomeness as a result of this acquisition, why Lucas sold out, the trend in charitable giving for the .00001%, a thought on whether Star Wars nerds might have gotten it wrong on the prequels, mini-review of 'Flight', mini-mini-review of 'Argo', and finally, whether one Southwest flier thinks the Trap is a sweetheart... or something else entirely. Play, listen, rejoice.

Show #56 - Wait, THAT was Mark Consuelos?!

Yep. They did another one. Bloody Face himself couldn't keep these two Romneys from recording another podcast. Discussed: Apple's late-October product dump, the utility of iPads, whatever happened to 'DrawSomething', Apple products as art objects for the 5%, the 'Lonely Man' theme and the last shot of the 'Iron Man 3' teaser, what movies Ben Kinglsey is good in, the second season premiere of 'American Horror Story: Asylum', the newfound respect Bear Trap has for Kelly Ripa's husband, the drawbacks of genre mixing, when Katie Couric jumped the shark, the soul-killing banality of network morning television, the debates, the direction of the campaigns in the final weeks, Donald Trump's impending Obama bombshell, and the baby-sized reason for our most recent one-week hiatus. Listen, enjoy, comment.

Show #55 -- Bite-Sized Cinnabons will Tear Your Soul Apart

What? Two weeks go by and you think these two Gozerians were done abusing your eardrums? No such luck. The Obsidian Slab and the Trap for Bears are back with a brand new edition. Prepare yourself: this episode reaches heretofore unscaled heights of mediocrity. Discussed: the sooper-dangerous black ops that kept the podcasters away from their computers in recent weeks, Jim Lehrer's competence (or lack thereof) as a debate moderator, how Obama lost the big debate, what cats and the inability to be alone have to do with Arnold Schwarzenegger, great men versus good men, the lesson of Steve Jobs, a review of the iPhone 5, one of the reasons Apple decided to kick Google Maps to the curb, how thin is too thin when it comes to smart phones, a review of Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon's brilliant 'Cabin in the Woods', which movies Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford should be in (spoiler: it's all of them), to what extent the work of Clive Barker is paid tribute in that film, what 'Hellraiser's all about, and how the famed horror novelist nearly met his demise earlier this year. Show #54 -- iPhone 5! And also: 'Battleship'!

After giving their long-suffering listeners a week's reprieve from witless podcasting, Monolith and Bear Trap are back to abuse your eardrums. Its just the sort of thing they do. As summer makes its inexorable turn to fall, Apple fanboys' thoughts turn to new iPhones. In this episode of the Little Snack, a very nearly substantive discussion of Apple's big day and the reveal of the long-awaited (too long?) iPhone 5 breaks out. Also talked about: other things that are, of course, more interesting than new Apple devices. Discussed: how the updated Nano may be the clearest sign Jobs is truly gone, iPhone 5 features, whether or not Siri got fixed, the new iTouch, the greatness/terribleness of 'Battleship', how movies can substitute the satisfaction of familiarity for actual quality, the basic implausibility of the bat signal (we had to get Batman in there somehow), 'Snow White and the Huntsman', Kristin Stewart and Keanu Reeves as "blank slate" actors, bad wigs, where the presidential election stands, why the Obama convention bump is so unusual, how 2016 will play out, one possible future for the Republican party, and a question about a Navy Seal/author answered by the Snack's resident military mind. Hope you enjoy it!

Show #53 - The SnackList List

There comes a time when every ongoing series, whether it be film, television, or, yes, podcast, breaks out of the confines that defined its beginnings, and becomes something new, something like a perfect version of itself. And if this series, this continuing art, is lucky enough to evolve in this way, it has then the potential to achieve something very much like greatness. Nothing at all like that has happened here. But Monolith and BearTrap do discuss a lot of legitimately great movies. At length. Ad nauseum. Quite a bit. Discussed: the curious path of Rod Steiger, 'The Heat of the Night', the probable features of the impending iPhone 5, what the new Facetime has prompted at least one cell phone company to do, an emotional and largely uninformed discussion on the morality and impact of patent law in the wake of the Apple v Samsung verdict, a tiny opinion about one episode of a certain other podcast (if indeed it can be said to exist), the surprising quality of 'The Changeup', Jason Bateman's range, Jason Bateman's best post-'Arrested Development' film roles, a lengthy re-reading of listeners' top six lists each film often accompanied by a comment, and ending with Monolith's top six movies. Click, enjoy, pause every now and again during the 13-hour episode to, you know, get stuff in your life done, and then listen some more.

Show #52 - Tony Scott, RIP

The younger brother of Ridley Scott passed away this week, and the Trap and the 'Lith pay their respects the only way they know how: a slow reading of his filmography on IMDB, with each entry accompanied by a comment or memory or polite criticism. Also discussed: what the Trap did over the weekend, Rep. Todd Akin (R) of Missouri and his words of wisdom regarding "legitimate" rapes, Missouri senatorial politics, Claire McCaskill and the art of picking your opponent, Chick-fil-A and the realities of boycotting a major corporation, Schattner versus Schnatter, the second season opener of NBC's 'Grimm', the undeniable badness of ABC's 'Once Upon a Time' (followed by a conditional recommendation, weirdly), the recent Sight and Sound poll, the introduction of the Little Snack Top Six, movies that are likely to appear on various listener Top 6 lists, which movie might be most appropriately shown to a deaf and blind man turned sighted and hearing for just 3 hours, some dead air, a close and generally witless analysis of the late Tony Scott's filmography, the emotional reaction to suicide, what Scott will likely be remembered for, irksome characteristics of his style, his best movies, a mention of the 1978 film 'Coma' and an exhortation to see both that film and another called 'Dream House', and other stuff. There's really not any Batman references in this one, so it's worth a listen.

Show #51 - It's a mess!

After two single-theme episodes (that one with all the 'Dark Knight Rises' negativity and then that other one about the kid's book), your two favorite Cam Bradys are back talking about whatever pops into their addled, sleep-deprived heads. This show is particularly exciting because one of our listeners, a man who learned everything he knows about the craft of screenwriting from Little Snack episode #8 "How to Write a Politically Themed Comedy Screenplay", had a film he co-wrote released into thousands of theaters this past weekend. The 'Lith and the Trap are going to discuss how much Little Snack wisdom occasional guest podcaster Baby Hands absorbed to create 'The Campaign'. (Spoiler alert: not much because it's actually great.) ALSO DISCUSSED: the father-son dynamic between the Hugginses, inappropriate usage of the name 'Brian Cox', the three moments that created an inescapable vacuum of comedic perfection in the infamous baby-punching scene, whether the film is Cam's or Marty's, the NBC show 'Grimm', why networks so rarely put out quality programming, the relative low quality of most first seasons, more hatin' on 'Lost', why BearTrap stopped watching 'Smallville', why 'Breaking Bad' is so good, why Brian Cranston isn't a household name, plot holes in 'The Dark Knight', Nolan the Illusionist, Joker the planner, black blood in the 'Hit and Run' trailer and what it might mean for cinema, who was blown away by the 'Life of Pi' clip and trailer, and why the podcasters are both worried about 'Cloud Atlas' despite its amazing trailer. You've been clamoring for it (you being defined by the 5 or so listeners who read the book) and here it is. The "Ender's Game" episode of A Little Snack! Discussed: the Goldilocks theory of Ender's Game, the prescience of Orson Scott Card, why Valentine and Peter's blogging plot couldn't work in real life, Ender's Game as military textbook, the conditional love of parents, why the battle room sequences sucked, why the battle room sequences were awesome, the difficulties of adaptation, one way the screenwriters may have "cracked" the book, Mr Short Term Memory (Trap) is dismayed once again by the choice of director for the movie, the plausibility of Ender's age, what the Queen bugger and Graff have in common, one thing futurist Card failed to predict, the worthiness of humanity, AND, some regret about DKR's treatment in the last podcast. Show #49 - Your punishment must be more severe, so this episode is almost two hours long.

The Baby Hiatus has ended! The Little Snack has returned in a podcast episode so rambling and meandering, you'll kind of wish the hiatus had lasted a year or two longer. In addition to talking about a little thing called the Miracle of Life, these Lieutenant Eckhardts get serious and tear the final installment of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy, 'The Dark Knight Rises' a new one. It's been a long time coming for these BatFreaks, and they're enthusiastic if not terribly positive. Settle in for a long and spoiler-rich podcast and prepare to shake your head slowly in disappointment. Discussed! The recent birth of a new, tinier Monolith, circumcision, sensitivity and all manner of inappropriateness, the superiority of IMAX, terrible Bane impressions, the difficulty of acting from behind a mouth-covering mask, speechifying, what is and what is not "Batman", the shabby treatment of important (and often elderly) characters, the things orphans know about other orphans just by looking into their eyes, the uncanny strength of Bruce Wayne's back,  Batman's poor prioritization skills when saving friends' lives, jerky theater ushers and reminders of Aurora, character consistency (or lack thereof) in the Scarecrow, the "Bat" as a crutch, Gotham as Sarajevo, a highly illuminating comparison between scenes in 'Rising' and 'Dark Knight', where 'Batman' goes from here, and general smack-talk about a movie the two Adam Wests liked more than they let on.

Click 'Play' to hear these General Halftracks talk to the only active-military Little Snack listener. Listen in awe as this employee of the ultra-secretive [redacted] reveals the stunning truth about the [redacted] conspiracy, who [redacted] killed with his bare hands in the Oval [redacted], and how many buzzy, death-dealing [redacted] are currently hovering above your house. Discussed: state secrets, more state secrets and then even more state secrets (kidding!), war movies, the legions of military who really enjoyed the authenticity of 'The Hurt Locker',the genius of 'The Thin Red Line', 'Black Hawk Down', 'Jarhead', 'Band of Brothers', getting shot at, PTSD, the "enemy" and what exactly that means, the standing of the military amongst the electorate and what that might mean, and, finally, what Bear Trap thinks to himself when he sees someone in uniform at the airport. Slow news week. No event movies to discuss. No season finales to dissect. These two L. Ron Hubbard's just let it roll on this week's freewheeling episode of the Little Snack. Discussed: The iPad versus Microsoft's new Surface tablet, recent Apple decisions that Steve Jobs probably wouldn't have liked, your humble podcasters' presence at the opening of the first west coast Apple store, the things that are wrong with Joaquin Phoenix, PT Anderson's upcoming film 'The Master' and its fresh teasers, Dolby Atmos, people's willingness to pay when it comes to sound in a theater experience, an actor's departure from a planned sequel that depresses Bear Trap to no end, where we were on 9/11, who got preachy after that bad day and who handled it well, which famous actor is a 'downer', and about thirty other things. Show #46- What do you mean this isn't LV-426?

They don't come along very often. True event films. We've had plenty of 'Alien' sequels, but this is our first real shot in twenty years at a truly great 'Alien' movie. Does Ridley's return to the universe of terror he established in 1979 astound? Or does it merely confuse? Or something in between? The two Epimetheuses talk this thing deader than a chest-exploded Engineer in this week's episode of Little Snack. Discussed: some nice, non-chestburster-related Apple news, brief movie reviews from Facebook, Bear Trap's befuddlement upon discovering which planet is NOT depicted in 'Prometheus', Monolith's fascination with the meaning behind the mysterious first scene, the reason Bear Trap wasn't totally present for that scene, other movies Ridley may have inserted subtle allusions to, Idris's greatness, how Fassbender's David is like Hopkins' Lecter, Lean-esque moments, pointlessness and how it might apply to 'Prometheus', and lots and lots of questions. Questions that need answering, but probably won't be. Enjoy!

Well, prepare yourself for the exact opposite of that as Monolith and Bear Trap do a full viewer's commentary on the season two finale of 'Game of Thrones'! From Tyrion's rude awakening to Samwell's run-in with some very pale individuals, these two blab about all of it. For optimal listening "enjoyment", watch the episode along with our resident Hodors. Forty minutes in, Monolith has to rein in the adulation, even if the Trap isn't even a quarter of the way done talking about it. After everyone's good and convinced of that film's greatness, these Ignatius J. Reillys move on to wizards in scary marsh-houses, cool and not-cool kids alike exploring their superpowers together, and fresh princes chasing animals in Florida. Click the little button and listen to a very movie-centric episode of the Snack. Discussed: Bloomberg's NYC ban on big containers for liquid, 'The Grey', Dominic Monaghan spilling the beans about Jack Shepard's problem keeping his fists to himself, 'Chronicle' and the secret blend of  'Akira' and nepotism used to make it, how well Harry Potter pretends to be a Muggle in 'The Woman in Black', Boris the Animal's unexpected reaction to meeting his future self in 'Men in Black 3', and a word or two on the coolest explosion you'll ever see on television. Show # 42- AVENGERS! BRING YOURSELVES INTO ONE ANOTHER'S GENERAL VICINITY!

The LittleSnack listeners' geeked-out 'Avengers' talk over the weekend brought the 'Lith out of his cave and into a theater Monday afternoon, for only the second time this year. Keep it up everyone! Together you can cure him of his acute agoraphobia! And the reward for your good deeds: he and BearTrap meander through a discussion of 'Avengers' for an entire hour. Remember all the fun you had at the movie? Take all that away and then replace it with a soul-deep existential ennui, and you've essentially got this podcast. Don't give me that sad face. You've got to be used to this by now.

Discussed: Blue-glowing Tesseracts and SHIELD's policy of deterrence, whether Nick Fury is "an evil man" or "evil evil man", whether puny humans have any place in an Avengers movie, why Hulk is oddly selective about when he's bad Hulk and when he's amenable Hulk, podcasts we plan to have later we know you'll love (our thoughts on NASA and the worsening trend of trailers showing spoiler-y plot points from the movies they're trying to get you to see), Beastie Boys memories, getting "deep into some Fat Boys", and some 'Ender's Game' business. Anyway, in their first podcast since their Asheville sojourn, the two Pudd'nhead Wilsons catch everyone up on all the Game of Thrones talk you've been clamoring for. ('You' being the three other people who watch and enjoy the show.) Also discussed: thoughts on last episode's excellent "broad"cast, what HBO's 'must show boobies' clause might mean for GoT's casting director, "MI4: Ghost Protocol" and the genius of Brad Bird, the line from 'Iron Giant' that gets Monolith every time, a possible Little Snack Book Club selection, a request for the theater-averse podcaster to see a certain film set in a forested area centering around a small wooden structure, and, weirdly, nothing about 'The Avengers' which comes out this Friday. Show #40- 'Sucker Punch'! The Worst of Film and Podcast Collide!!

Recorded live in the living room of a house nestled in the forest-covered hills of lovely Asheville, NC, and featuring a second appearance from special guest, Baby Hands, Little Snack presents episode #40! On a coffee table crowded with film books and issues of 'Entertainment Weekly', the two know-nuthins (and guest) set up a single (and uncomfortably phallic) microphone, hooked it up to a laptop, sat down and uttered poorly reasoned opinions and general misinformation. You know, same as ever. Discussed: the brain-melting terribleness of Zach Snyder's 'Sucker Punch', why it doesn't even work as exploitation, which 5 minutes of the movie Monolith saw, who really wanted to like it, whose permission we're surprised Zach Snyder got to make the movie, and whether it's interesting to discuss a movie all agree is bad. Also discussed: the '21 Jump Street' movie, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum and their ability to "grow" on Bear Trap, foisting, and a lot of other interesting things.

Ladies' Podcast:

Twilight Would be Better with Dachshunds, Alan Rickman (as he is RIGHT NOW) is hot, and lots of ladies talkin' salty. Very salty.

Censors, get your hands on those buttons, this one's not for the faint of ear. Shortly after the other podcast finished, a new one began featuring the poor, long-suffering wives of episode 40's podcasters. The possibility of a "broad"cast had been looming for some times, and the girls finally made good on their threat. The evidence is before you now. And before you ask, no. Alcohol played no role in what you're about to hear. Discussed: the 'Twilight' series, what shape Jacob should have shifted into, 'Hunger Games', what male actors the ladies find fetching, and a whole lot of sweet sweet f-bombs. Other interesting topics are covered, but as this recording has not been heard by anyone besides those who recorded it, the subject list is a mystery. Prepare to request the 'Lith and the Trap vacate the Little Snack and install these ladies as permanent replacements -- if they're half as interesting in this podcast as they are in person, prepare to be very very interested. Special programming note: this podcast features a sung version of the 'Little Snack' theme song. A snippet has been heard, and enjoyed. Click on this and enjoy some girl talk.

Hey 'cast fans, this week we are trying something new. We cover three shows and took way too long convincing Brian he was wrong. So we have put up cast run times for when to skip forward to listen or skip entirely if you haven't seen them. ARRR there be spoilers ahead. Monolith obviously wrote this. Avast.

Game of Thrones Podcast
Are Stannis and Melisandre, you know, hooking up?

It's been a long grueling wait, but HBO's Game of Thrones is finally back. Monolith tolerates a long discussion with BearTrap about episode 1 of season 2 on this podcast. Discussed: The continuing greatness of Dinklage, a long, drawn-out history of Davos, AKA the Onion Knight, Bear Trap's foray into geek excess at an advance screening of the episode, whether there is or is not anything up with Stannis and the red-haired witch, and we answer the question raised by Joffrey in this episode: Does the throne room need redecorating? Listen to this one.

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy Podcast: 34min
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier... hmm. Think I missed something.

John Le Carre is the writer who brought the spy novel up to the level of high art. The 2011 film adaptation of one of Le Carre's most famous novels? Not so much. But boy do they try, and prettily at that. The two resident dunderheads scratch their noggins in this 'Tinker, Tailor'-centric podcast. Discussed: acting, production design, setting, withholding, nervous breakdowns, Gary Oldman, Cumberbatch, the Cold War's "hard edge", the Cold War as "gentleman's game", and books and movies that make us feel dumb. No need to torrent this one. You can have it for free off iTunes.

Drive Podcast: 57min 16sec
Don't ever turn your back on Albert Brooks.

The hip, buzzy indie movie that had all the film nerds' hearts going pitter patter finally dropped into the Monolith's blu-ray player last weekend. The verdict? Find out on this podcast. Discussed: accurate RPM readings when a car is going a certain speed, what Christina Hendricks was doing in this movie, coincidence, the LA underworld, Jack Reacher, who walked away, and some things that would have been better. Get this and listen to it.

Show #38- The odds of Monolith getting the last movie theater pretzel are, as ever, in his favor.

In this episode Monolith and BearTrap answer the question that's been on everyone's mind since they walked out of the dystopian world of Panem and into the bright sunlight of the movie theater parking lot: "What did those two Little Snack idiots think of that movie?" 'Hunger Games'! Dissected in this, podcast number 38. Also discussed: Monolith's 100% awesome theater experience, 'The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo', (the book and the David Fincher adaptation), what Bear Trap plans to see Wednesday night, and then the game-app that's sweeping iPads everywhere, 'Draw Something'. Listen. Enjoy. Lean forward.

Show #37- How Not to Vet a Vice-Presidential Canididate

The podcasters made sure they were bright-eyed and bushy tailed for this episode, but unfortunately, they couldn't stop talking, so settle in for an epic podcast. Discussed: 'Game of Thrones' season 2 trailer, Monolith's "flip-flop" on viewing 'GoT' Season 2 after saying in a previous episode he would not, 'Game Change' reviewed, what movie Bear Trap thinks 'Game Change' is most like, whose performance in that film was 'Streepian", the release of the new iPad and hands-on reviews of the new device, the iPad's utility (or lack thereof) as a productivity-enabler, Apple's all-around good week, Mike Daisy's fabrications about FoxConn, and the raw awesomeness of the new 'Prometheus' trailer. Enjoy it, friends!

Show #36- The Reinvention of Harry Knowles

Though the words "I got nothing" are spoken in the first 10 seconds of the episode, turns out the dopes had more to say than they thought in this 50-minute free-form podcast. We talk about Harold Knowles [sic] and Aintitawesomenews.com [also sic], what happened after a private screening of McTiernan's 'Rollerball' remake for the aforementioned Harold [sic], how, if at all, the race for the Republican nomination changed after last night's contests in 'Bama and 'Sippi, ignorance in the South versus good old-fashioned political dislike, Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Fluke and the free market, Bobby McFerrin versus Michael Winslow, 'The Sisters Brothers', book awards, thoughts on the landmark Marvel comic crossover series "Civil War", a question for a listener, and then a punchy interlude about the heart-monitor machine in hospitals that gives that continuous beep sound when a person dies. Free-form, folks. And then we talk about what we're going to talk about in the next podcast ('Game Change'), and how that show's going to be super-awesome. This one's a real grab-bag. Enjoy it, Snackers!

Show #35- Hanna. Percy Jackson. Kia Optimas. Best podcast of all time.

On this podcast, listen to your favorite know-nuthin's talk ever-so-briefly about Bear Trap's new car (listen to find out wha ...zzzzzz), and then spend a really long time talking about 'Hanna', which Monolith maligned this weekend on Facebook as 'crap'. Monolith attempts to explain. And then we talk about the film you've all been waiting to hear us discuss: "Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief". What, you couldn't give two Hannas about that movie? Well, sorry. Monolith took in an OnDemand showing over the weekend and the 'Lith and Trap talk about it. Sorry for this one, guys.

Show #34- E-books and the Fall of Western Civilization; Also: The Descendants!

After a podcast where the only thing everyone could agree on was the Trap said something wrong about something, our intrepid yakkers venture forth once more into the breach to speak about that which must be spoken about! Like, you know, toilet paper. Discussed in this episode: Kindle's Lending Library, Amazon Prime, Franzen's grandiose (and not terribly helpful) overstatement of the case against e-books, permanence in art, a Droid/iPhone comparison: one user's generally useless observations, 'The Descendants', the old white men who decide which movies get Oscars every year, one reason women may be underrepresented in the Academy, the weird and sudden uproar over contraception, the peculiar running style of George Clooney, the 'Phantom Menace' poster and teaser from back in the day, why the likelihood of a viable third party candidacy this year is low, and, whew. Man. Bunch of stuff. About an hour and a minute long. Enjoy it, friends.

Show #33- Key & Peele & Apple & Adele. Literally.

On this week's podcast the 'Lith and the Trap discuss the use and misuse of the word 'literally', Trap's new iPhone 4s, the worth of smartphone screen protectors, Siri, the brilliant new Comedy Central show 'Key & Peele', and we talk about the music of Adele like a couple of fan-girls. We also get more in-depth on the controversy surrounding Apple's close association with the FoxConn factory where many of Apple's devices (including their iPhone and iPad devices) are assembled. Are the claims of worker mistreatment overblown? Should those who've been critical of FoxConn and Apple ease back in light of the jobs Apple's created in the US for app developers? We talk about new Apple CEO Tim Cook's recent statement about the issue and weigh in on what it means and whether it will lead to any action. And then we mention Tosh and the new Stephen King novel. It's a lively show. Enjoy!

Show #32- Smartball

It's been a little while since our last episode, so we've got a lot to catch up on in this week's podcast. First, we address the Facebook mega-controversy that recently erupted over Monolith's active dislike for 'The Fighter. Listen to find out how famed NPR personality and "Fresh Air" host Terry Gross is the 'Lith's unlikely ally when it comes to this Oscar-winning film. We also get into the ultimate fighting movie 'Warrior' starring Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton. While we stammer through our thoughts on the film, the 'Lith shocks everyone with a recital of Tom Hardy's career bio. Did you know that guy was in a Star Trek movie? We also get into the veracity of the theories espoused in 'Moneyball', the poor parenting on display in 'Real Steel', the incredible truths revealed by the HD-ization of the new 'Star Trek: The Next Generation' Blu-Rays, and we do not get into 'The Grey' at all because SOMEone on the podcast won't see it until it's on video. So humor us for just one more week and give that audio file a listen.

Show #31- We're 'Gung Ho' for Mediocre Podcasts!

This was the podcast that almost didn't happen. You see, we're empathetic guys, and the level of brilliance we hit our listeners with each week scares us a little, particularly given how much it can hurt to have your mind blown. We don't want to hurt nobody. So, given how brilliant the last few podcasts have been, and how much astonishingly compelling nuggets of opinion/wisdom we were planning on dropping for this week's podcast, we almost gave it up. We worried this one would be the one to finally kill someone. So after much debate we decided to make this week's podcast kind of boring and even more uninformed than usual. We made that sacrifice because you, the listener, are always our top priority. So get ready for the epically humdrum. Discussed: Romney v Gingrich, Republicans in general in the year 2012, the real, on-the-ground power of political ads to move public opinion, labor unions, the enduring legacy of Ron Howard's classic 'Gung Ho', teacher's unions, the new silent film, 'The Artist', school chum Craig Zobel's new Sundance buzz-generating thriller 'Compliance', and a bunch of other stuff. Trust me: you'll be so grateful for the banality.

Show #30: No Country for Paula Deen

By popular demand we have returned to the old meandering format you've all come to love. (We like the longer format too). This one's a little more than an hour, so plan your days accordingly. Though this one has its share of current events, it's also got one of those 'big think' topics for you to ponder and then discuss at length with your friends and loved ones in your various salons. You're welcome. Discussed: George Lucas' "threats" of retirement, the oddly cheery quality of the 'Red Tails' trailers, Wednesday's internet blackout to oppose SOPA, other, better solutions to online piracy, Franzen's thoughts on the 'saturation of entertainment' in our culture, Cormac McCarthy's career change, and Paula Deen's diagnosis/money-making scheme. Hope you enjoy it.

Show #29: A Contagion of Republican Presidential Candidates

We're back with a new half-hour podcast. That's right, I said a half-hour podcast. Enjoy it peeps. Discussed: Mitt Romney's New Hampshire win and what it means for the Republican field, and Obama's relative strength going into November. We also revisit Steven Soderburgh's 2011 worldwide pandemic movie 'Contagion'. Monolith finally saw it, and so we, you know, talk about it. Also noted: Charles Barkley's appearance on SNL last weekend, when, how, and on what people watch commercials, and some stuff about new apps to watch TV with. All in just a little over 30 minutes. You're welcome. Won't happen again.

Show #28: Kurt Vonnegut's 8 Rules for How Not to do a Podcast

On this, the last podcast of 2011, we discuss 'The Dark Knight Rises' trailer, the 'Prometheus' teaser, possible 20th Century Fox shenanigans (the very possibility of which gets us riled), and the story of the genesis of the Alien-creature, as told by co-creator Ron Shussett (and poorly recalled by BearTrap), Kurt Vonnegut's 8 rules for writing a short story, and then a spoiler-heavy discussion of season 1 of FX's 'American Horror Story'. Click on the link and get you some podcast. Happy new year er'rybody!
