Whether you answer to Grissom or to psychos, this podcast (#7) has something for everyone. Sure you have to endure yet another “Apple News” segment, and even a minute or more spent on something called “Book news”, but you also get to hear talk of what Michael Bay has to teach us, a very nearly intelligent discussion of the film ‘Source Code’, and then a vivisection of some of the latest trailers to hit the interwebs, like “The Iron Lady”, “Warhorse”, and the indie “Another Earth”. And Bear Trap’s voice cracks like three times. So, you know, listen for that. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteOkay so -
I only got through the first half of the podcast this morning, but I just saw this item:
http://www.movieline.com/2011/07/transformers-dark-of-the-moon-wasnt-completely-shot-in-3-d-and-5-other-stories-youll-be-talking-abou.php
"...somewhere between 47 and 52 percent of Dark of the Moon was converted..."
So when you say some of the 3D seemed passive, you really didn't think about it that much? Probably because that image was meant to be flat.
Also, yes, you should bring Shawn on and pretend he's not smart. Or I'll do it, if you want.

Okay, so -
Are the Airs selling like crazy? I figured they wouldn't really take off until everything was in the iCloud. Was thinking of getting one, but heard that if you had even two softwares open, the thing could barely function. True, not true? I'm still someone who wouldn't know what to do if I didn't have a CD/DVD drive, though, so I feel like this one ain't for me.
And a very good point about Jurassic Park. That's such a signature of that movie, too, and I've never heard anybody bring that up. Funny that it works as well as it does, that the logic of it doesn't ruin the moment.
Warhorse - yeah, if Spielberg didn't have his name all over this, there's no way I'd be thinking about going to see it. And I, too, wish Williams had come up with a more memorable bit of music, there. That being said, since Spielberg's name is on it, I will go see this. I expect he will pull something interesting out of an otherwise so-so looking story.
Iron Lady - oh man, yeah. That's a gag inducer. That teaser isn't doing anything for me.
Another Earth - an interesting, though science-dumb, mumblecore-ish movie with sci-fi leanings. No thanks.
So - a movie you guys should watch and discuss... I would love to hear your thoughts on The Thing and then on the (terrible) trailer for the new The Thing. I think it's possibly the stupidest prequel idea ever - specifically because of the whole point of Carpenter's The Thing. Though I guess this prequel is really a remake... sorta. Anyway, would love to have you guys bore me with that next time...

ReplyDeleteWould be honored to be your Karl Pilkington. Anytime. And here's something Karl would have known: Duncan Jones is David Bowie's son. Just a fun little bit of trivia you could have mentioned. But didn't.
Craig - Heath has a MacBook Air and raves about it. In fact, I'm planning to buy one tomorrow. I'll let you know what I think in my own podcast.
No voice crack tallies. Unless they're used as segues. But I do love when Peter says, "Brian, Brian, Brian" in a completely dismissive tone. I'll definitely be keeping tally of those.
R.I.P. Jonathan Brandis. You will be missed (just apparently not by Crane).
So you guys think Armageddon is better than The Rock? I don't know. Would have to go back and watch them both, but at the moment would lead towards the former as my Michael Bay fave (though still haven't seen The Island or Trans 2 &3).
And, wow, really looooong discussion of high heels. Can't wait for next week's discussion on sun dresses...
Also, don't EVER treat my questions as jokes. Ever. Especially when it comes to theme songs. But thanks for backing up the Matrix claims a little more at least. That's all I'm looking for. Just pretend you're on trial when recording these things. No big.
Nice Fish Tank joke. Got a LOL from me. Kudos Pete. But seriously - that's a good flick.
Ooooh, Crane said "Explain yourself, sir!" Lovin' it. Now we're talking. Again, even if I disagree with your reasons Peter at least I can respect them when you actually provide one or two.
Will have to watch the Iron Lady teaser sometime, but second Craig's sentiments about Warhorse (but the Tintin full trailer looks fun) and think a discussion on The Thing is a terrific idea. Also, Heath and I watched ALIEN the other night and there's a movie that undeniably holds up extremely well. What say you nerds of the future of this franchise??
Crane, do you remember when you used to say Tom Cruise's name in a cockney-esque accent for some reason? That was fun. Mapother would agree.
Ha. "Quidditch the hell out of here." That's two LOLs for Fedak. Color me amazed!
"Help decide how we bore you." There it is. The plea of a generation...
Good stuff, fellas. Keep 'em coming.
